Football rolls after slow start against RHAM

Saturday, September 12, 2015

 Newington 38, RHAM 7

Nick Guadarrama was solid in his first start at quarterback for Newington, going 5-for-10 for 157 yards and two touchdowns as the Indians shook off a slow start to cruise at home over RHAM, 38-7.

The junior made an immediate connection with tight end Ben Maycock, who had two catches, both for touchdowns, totaling 107 yards.

Brandon Kamansky ran the ball well for Newington, which debuted its new run-heavy offense, going for 50 yards and a score.

Jay LaRosa made all five of his extra point attempts and also hit a 31-yard field goal for Newington, which had 319 yards of total offense.

After trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, the Indians scored 24 points in the second stanza to break the game open.

Maycock, a senior, moved to the tight end position Guadarrama vacated when he moved to quarterback. Known as a terrific baseball player, Maycock looks to be ready to make huge contributions to the football program as well.

Defensively, Edgar Polanco, a junior safety, had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown.
